Graphic Medicine Review (GMR) Editorial Team Membership

Posted by A. David Lewis on 2025-10-19

As GMR moves into 2026 and its 5th-year anniversary, co-editors A. David Lewis and Mary Piorun want to provide new avenues by which the identified Editorial Team can contribute to and help navigate the direction of the journal moving forward. To that end, a number of extremely helpful earlier members have transitioned off the team—and we thank them for all the time and effort they have given—while others have opted to stay on to usher in this new focus (for which we are also appreciative).

Starting in 2026, GMR would like, in addition to its stated, ongoing mission of peer-reviewed, open-access graphic medicine material, to promote the following efforts:

  • Publishing conference proceedings and academic panels pertaining to the study, use, or creation of graphic medicine;
  • Inviting international stakeholders to reflect on regional efforts in the field, genre, movement, and industry;
  • Interviewing pioneers and rising talents on their education, experience, process, and thought; and
  • Identifying new voices and new directions being undertaken, with links to their precursors.

Therefore, GMR is looking for both ongoing and new Editorial Team members to pursue all of the above. We would like to establish a twice-annual meeting (whether in person or via teleconference) as well as a commitment from each member to put forward at least two potential authors per year for consideration. Moreover, assistance in maintaining the pool of volunteer reviewers is sought, and, finally, GMR would like better to engage people’s social media presence and ask for consistent promotion, varying by individual, of these opportunities. Training in Janeway tools and the journal publication process would likewise be made available to those who are interested.

GMR welcomes all backgrounds, all levels, and all geographies of Graphic Medicine supporters to join the Editorial Team. Those interested should send a letter of interest and brief summary of their experience to a.lewis@mcphs.edu with the Subject: “GMR Editorial Team” by December 1.
